- I really like hand-drawn type, I've always been aware of it and over summertime this interest grew significantly.
- I'm very much not ready in terms of self-promotional material
- That organisation is the ultimate key to completing briefs successfully
- I feel as though I'd rather do freelance work than work as part of a company, but this may change of course
- How to fully engage and get interested in the work I am doing
5 Things I would address differently than I did this summer:
- I should have stayed in Leeds and given myself the chance to get much more involved in the design world
- Setting myself targets would have helped me structure my summer a bit more thoughtfully
- Should have made a greater attempt to collect more contacts whilst I was in Europe
- I failed to really keep myself engaged with graphic design over the summertime, as a result by the time it got to September I had in many ways forgotten what it was that kept me interested in the first place
- Mad a significant amount of studio visits to get a good idea of how the industry operates
5 Specific things I will address this Semester that should be useful:
- Retaining interests in certain briefs - find ways to keep myself engaged rather than get a week into the brief and losing track of what I am trying to achieve
- Begin to build up a network of contacts both in the design industry or otherwise; in order to maximise my chances of landing good work at any point
- Presentation skills, as of course this will always be useful and having left my design strategies presentation to the last minute I feel that in the future I should compensate for that by spending a much greater amount of time and care towards them
- A more active approach to getting feedback and asking for advice
- Put some work out in the public domain, something I have not really done before apart from the YCN competition brief amongst a few other things
5 or more things I feel we could address as a group:
- Putting together an effective portfolio alongside self-promotional material, taking into account that work produced previously may possibly not be up to that sort of standard
- Business techniques? and possibly presentation skills generally
- A more in-depth look at the accounting side of freelance work
5 Things I feel we have not looked at in PPD that I personally would like to know more about with reference to professionalism:
- Situations; it would be useful to hear more about what past students are up to and where they have landed themselves
- How to manage myself straight after this course, taking into account there are certain things that need to be done before settling into a a straight 9-5 for the next 50 years, i.e. places to go and things to get involved with
