10 short but informative statements that identify my distinctive 'positioning' as a graphic designer.
1- I have been studying graphic design for roughly a year and half now, with extremely little/no previous experience beforehand, therefore I am still very much getting to grips with the subject, and have not begun creating my own style or overly specialising in certain areas.
2- I currently enjoy working with type and layout primarily, but am also beginning to enjoy moving image/design for screen.
3- The areas in the industry I would ideally place myself in would be the music industry, as music is one thing I have always been involved with, and graphic design I have only just become involved with.
4- I don't particularly want to work alone in the future, I feel that for myself this would be restrictive and result in bland work.
5- I would ideally work in a studio somewhere in a city, I don't like the idea of being stuck inside all day long to get work done.
6- One thing I would like to do soon is design for a record label.
7- In terms of client groups, most of the clients I would be aiming to work with are based in the UK and if not, Europe. I have no plans currently to leave Europe any time soon.
8- The nature of the industry I would like to enter into is perhaps not as competitive as other fields of graphic design, as it pretty much solely relies on knowing people and being involved with that sort of thing.
9- I would potentially enjoy collaborating with other people in underground record labels, ( i hate the label 'underground' though) both making music and designing, as it's one of those things where a lot of people do a lot of things, rather than just being solely exclusive roles. This I imagine would be far more interesting than simply doing graphic design every day.
10- I would promote myself hopefully just through getting to know people, and potentially starting up a blog where I could put my work up along with other random bits and pieces. We'll see.
